My Agfa Agnar Lens in a
Cap
I was looking at "Loreo
Lens in a Cap" [ www.loreo.com
] but the reviews put me off buying one, it's really a brass
Petzval Lens [ http://shop.lomography.com/gb/brass-petzval-canon-mount
] that I would like, but £460 is a bit out of my budget.
All this made me think about an old Agfa Silette (circa 1960)
sitting in my "camera bits" draw that has seen better
days. It has a nice Agnar 45mm f/3.5 lens that i could put to
use on my Canon DSLR. The lens was easily removed, as the whole
assembly was only secured to the body with two screws. I locked
it in the "B" setting to keep the shutter blades open,
then I drilled a 25mm hole in a plastic Canon body cap to use
as a temporary adaptor to try the lens. I cannot get infinity
focus or anything more than a few inches as the rear lens element
is too far from the sensor (the flange focal distance should
be 44mm for a Canon 550D), even if I use a metal M42 to EOS adaptor
it would put the rear lens element dangerously close to the mirror.
Oh well..but that does mean I now have a manual close focus lens
that cost me nothing...have a browse at the photos.
